Company Overview

SEN LIGHTS Corporation was founded in 1965 with the goal of developing and manufacturing lasers, 5 years after Dr Maiman of GE Electric’s Hughes Research Office invented the world’s first laser device. Although a huge invention for the world, after five years the laser market had not matured, and sales were limited to only a few helium neon lasers and 1 argon laser; the laser business was at a standstill.
During the same time the market for electric circuits was increasing and demand for high performance UV light sources for the sterilization of semiconductor wafers grew. Using our experience in laser discharge tubes, we took on the challenge of developing the high-performance UV lights needed by the semiconductor industry; and succeeded in 1973. This is how SEN LIGHTS Corporation came to have UV technologies as our core business.
The next large move in the market for UV products was the introduction of the liquid crystal display industry, which greatly improved the yield rate and elevated the degree of integration. Although liquid crystal was created in the US, Japan was the first nation to successfully create a product from it. As short wavelength UV has proven to be a technology capable of advanced cleaning of glass panels, it was promptly adopted into the liquid crystal display television industry.
Apart from dry cleaning, UV is effective for reformulation due to its ability to increase adhesiveness in plastics and metals. In reformulation technology which uses highly concentrated chemicals, UV is the only source of surface smoothing, therefore it is ideal for the manufacturing process of IT products that are becoming more and more high density integrated. It is also the only way of applying reinforced lubricant to the surface of mass storage devices (HDD), making UV technology a part of the process of all semiconductor board packages.
UV has a 100-year history in the water treatment industry; organic pollutants can be treated by using UV rays in conjunction with oxidants. There are high hopes for this kind of cutting-edge technology - called the advanced oxidation process. We are a company that produces UV light sources in-house, and on as well as manufacturing UV devices we hold a high potential and a commitment to excellence.
